Cereal, Amoxacillin, & Sweet Potatoes
I love being a mom ... there are a lot of things that I knew ... a lot of things that I thought I knew ... and a lot of things that I just don't know.
CEREAL: So our latest adventure ... we started Alexander on rice cereal a few weeks ago. Each time that we gave it to him it was followed by several questionable looks about the unknown substance in his mouth. (pictures to follow) So he would humor us and eat a few bites and then spit the rest out. He was not a big fan, and to be honest I was a little disappointed.
AMOXACILLIN & CEREAL: As many of you know Alexander has been battling a chest cold on and off for several months. After MANY phone calls to our family physician he decided it was time to bring him in (shew!). To make a long story short ... I think that Joe and Alexander left their mark on Idaho Family Physicians. So they came home with a bottle of Amoxacillin ... also known to my family as "strawberry shortcake medicine", my childhood favorite medicine. The smell alone made me a little nauseated and brought back memories of the cold sugary syrup that I so enjoyed. Well ... to my amazement ... ALEXANDER HATES STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE MEDICINE! Infact he HATES it so much ... he stopped eating his cereal! So each night typically was a stand off for how long I was going to trick him into eating his cereal (between each ounce of his bottle I would shove a spoonful in) and how long he was going to resist. :-) It was quite comical! So once again I was on the phone to our doctor who said don't worry about the cereal ... lay off for a bit and why not try some veggies.
AMOXICILLIN: ... the best (dripping in scarcasm) part of the conversation with the doctor was he said because he has had this nagging cold for so long ... he wanted to do a SECOND 10 DAYS OF ANTIBIOTICS to make sure we really get rid of the bug. In my head i'm saying "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" So, Joe and I have decided to perservere!
SWEET POTATOES, CEREAL & AMOXICILLIN: ... to my relief ... Alexander LOVES the sweet potatoes ... and after a meal of only sweet potatoes ... i started sneaking in a bite or two of cereal ... and again ... he LOVES IT! Alexander loves his food so much ... he is boarderline in tears between each bite because Mom is not feeding him fast enough. I had no idea his mouth could open up SO FAR! Yeah! So then last night I got a little more sneaky ... he was still hungry after his cereal and sweet potatoes ... so i mixed the strawberry shortcake medicine with cereal ... and he ate it! Yeah, no one cried or got mad, and i no longer have pink speks on my glasses from Alexander spitting his medicine (his newest trick) which he thinks is pretty funny!
So ... all in all to say ... MOM WON THIS TIME!! :-)
